2008 Mazda 3

Overview

The 2008 Mazda 3 sedan/hatchback offers crisp handling, intelligent designing and an extensive list of standard features. The Mazda 3 debuted in the compact segment in 2004, and since then has established a reputation as a stylish, performance-oriented vehicle.

Powertrain and performance

The Mazda 3 sedan comes with three levels of available equipment: Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. The entry-level i-model is available with a fuel-efficient 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 148 horsepower and offering EPA mileage of 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The sporty s-model is equipped with a sophisticated 2.3-liter, four-cylinder engine giving 156 horsepower and EPA mileage of 22/29 mpg (city/highway). The Mazda 3 five-door hatchback comes standard with a 156-horsepower, 2.3-liter engine. The five-door also comes in Sport, Touring and Grand Touring trims. It offers more cargo versatility than the four-door model.

Body and styling

The Mazda 3 stands out in its class as a result of its athletic handling, refined engines, strong brakes, sharp styling, top-notch build and material quality, and hatchback utility. The Mazda 3 sedan has the traditional appearance of a four-door, five-passenger car. The 2008 Mazda 3 is largely unchanged this year. There is also a high-performance MazdaSpeed hatchback, which is available in Sport and Grand Touring trims. The MazdaSpeed includes limited-slip differential, a sport suspension, larger brakes, and 18-inch wheels, plus specific styling touches.

Safety features

The available safety features in the 2008 Mazda 3 include anti-lock brakes, traction control, anti-skid, curtain side air bags, and front side air bags. The Grand Touring versions of the s-model and MazdaSpeed have leather upholstery and xenon headlamps. A navigation system is an option on the s-model and on MazdaSpeed Grand Touring.
